Based in the small village of Nolay, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Mylène and Benoit’s family have been making wine here since the French revolution.

A combination of old vines, organic practices in the vineyard, and expert winemaking gives their wines great character and joy.

Given the phenomenal success of their Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc, I couldn't wait to see what the red would taste like. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Hautes-Côtes de Beaune is the perfect appellation to try if you’re looking for an easy-drinking Burgundy that doesn’t break the bank.

The grapes are picked from 60 year-old vines from a small vineyard called ‘En Château’. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak - sacrilege for this part of France!

But it gives the wine a lovely smoothness and power, which will get better and better with age over the next few years.

Finding value in Burgundy is like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily for you, I have connections with their finger on the pulse of young, upcoming producers and that is how Domaine Nicolas came to my attention.

The Nicolas family has been making the wine here since the French Revolution - Mylene and Benoit are the 6th generation to make the stuff.

I enjoyed this at the winery with a classic Burgundian ‘working lunch’ - lots of terrines, cheeses, cured ham and bread. Mylène cracked open a bottle of this and it was heavenly!

High end Burgundy Pinot at a reasonable price

A great example of a Burgundy red - not too light and full of flavour. Paired well with chicken and pork. Excellent value.

Thank you Paul, so glad you liked it!

Stunning

An utter delight. Bright red fruits, a lot of freshness and vibrancy. Stunning.

Nice, relatively light wine with lots of fruit

This wine has a lot going on for such a relatively light wine, albeit 13.5%.
For me it is the ideal mix of flavour and strength.
A lot of wines seem to be getting more fortified, this is a nice alternative to that.
